YOUR LOVE STORY

We met through mutual friends at Hotel Sorrento in July 2019, it took about 6 months later for our first date, we bumped into each other at Derby Day and there was a spark so I agreed to a date. Jye organised a beautiful day involving cheese and sushi, my favourite things!

Our engagement came 3 years later. Jye fooled me with a private winery tasting at Portsea Estate, there were all little wine stops set up around the property with the last one being on a hill overlooking the beach. A storm rolled in and Jye quickly got down on one knee, mumbled a few words and pulled out the most beautiful ring. We got half a sip of champagne in before we had to run back to the car in the rain. Regardless of the weather, it was the most perfectly planned weekend, our new house settled that same day and Jye had organised a beautiful big dinner with our closest friends.

FINDING YOUR DRESS

When we started planning our wedding I had the exact style in my head of what I loved, which was a drop waist and a full skirt. I just thought this style was so timeless, simple and flattering while still feeling traditional but modern, and not something I would ever look back and think 'why did I wear that'. I also liked the idea of a 'fit and flare' style but I thought I'm only going to get this one chance to wear a princess style gown, so that is what I wanted.

I tried dresses on at a few different places and I was open to other styles but unfortunately, I couldn't fall in love with anything because I couldn't get this idea of what I wanted out of my head. I started discussions with a designer about a custom gown and they were really helpful however I was cautious of custom as you never really know what the end result will look like, so I was a little bit hesitant. I almost pulled the trigger on the custom until one of my girlfriends Liv, who was working for KYHA, said to hold off until the new collection is released because there were drop waist gowns in there. As soon as there were images from New York Bridal Fashion Week I saw the gown of my dreams. It was almost exactly like what I wanted to create, a beautiful ruched drop waist bodice and a full skirt in the stunning duchess satin fabric.

THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

Our DJ, Marc, from Divine Audio. We have gotten to know him and he has DJ'd almost all of my girlfriends weddings. We checked dates with him before confirming with our venue! Good drinks (champagne & beer), food and music was really all we wanted. We wanted to create good energy over everything else and show our love for everyone that was there to celebrate us, our wedding was intimate so it was all our closest family and friends, and we just wanted them to have fun, feel the love and dance the night away.

A HIGHLIGHT FROM THE DAY

Our 20 month old daughter, Delilah, walking down the aisle to her dad. She was born to be centre of attention and was so funny. She waltzed straight down the isle, it was very cute. Also just seeing how much fun both our families had, it's a rare occasion to have everyone together like that and to be able to all just let down their hair. We had so much fun on the dancefloor with everyone and it just made me feel so happy to see them all there celebrating us.

A WORD OF ADVICE FOR BRIDES TO BE

I feel like it is said so much, but just to take it all in on the day. I did find the lead up overwhelming and I was nervous about certain things on the day, speeches, vows, emotions ect, but now it is over I was I could soak in those moments more without the worry. The lead up is so long and the day is over so quickly you really need to take a few breaths throughout the day and make sure you are soaking every moment in because it is sad when it is over and the excitement about all those moments are gone.
