YOUR LOVE STORY
Both Graeme and I grew up on beautiful Vancouver Island in a city called Victoria. As Victoria is a tight knit community where friend circles tend to intermingle, it is a wonder that we did not date sooner. Alas for our 20s, I was in Australia enjoying my friendships, career and the gorgeous beaches and Graeme was in Canada playing sport, finishing University and living the island life. During Covid 2020, my Mom passed away suddenly, bringing me back to Victoria, BC to be with my family. After returning to Canada, I decided to venture onto the dating app scene. With a little luck, and perhaps a helping hand from my Angel Mom, I came across Graeme. Graeme quickly asked me out for a brunch date to Bear and Joey Cafe, a Canadian x Australian owned cafe, which seemed fitting. Quick to act, Graeme asked me to be his girlfriend after two dates, which I happily agreed to...the second time he asked. I say Graeme is my greatest blessing and Graeme often comments landing me is his greatest achievement. It is a true case of what is meant for you finds a way. Due to the nature of our meeting and 2022, we grew close quickly, supporting each other through tough times and forging a love story that we are enormously proud of.
FINDING YOUR DRESS
I have had the absolute pleasure of working for Kyha Scott and KYHA Studios for six years in different capacities. I have watched Kyha create countless beautiful gowns and often thought it would be hard to decide on the one when my time finally came.
Kyha asked me to send her photos of some inspiration that I was loving prior to our consultation and when I did, she said, "leave it with me." In my consultation with Kyha, I was able to try on the now 'Salacea' gown whilst it was being created. I adored the sleeves and draping but could not decide if I wanted a full skirt or a fitted skirt which is when Kyha suggested a beautiful duchess satin overskirt. How could I say no?
For my second look, I wanted to do something rather unexpected, and the 'Sosa' Gown in Black was just that. I loved that it was something that no one saw coming - especially in Canada.
For my third look, I wore the 'Cali' Mini and it was perfect for dancing the night away in. I felt effortlessly supported which was no small feat on the dance floor we had.
THE NON-NEGOTIABLES
A big non-negotiable for us was that the food had to be great and there had to be plenty of it. We both agreed that one of the worst things that could happen would be for people to go hungry on our day, especially as we were on a remote island where fast food is certainly not a thing. We opted for a late-night pizza bar that kept the dance floor (and the after party) going.
We also wanted to ensure that we connected with our guests a lot over the wedding weekend, so we started the weekend with a fun and casual Tropical themed BBQ where everyone got to know each other, and we had time greeting all our guests.
A HIGHLIGHT FROM THE DAY
We took some of our wedding photos and portraits on a good friend's boat in the harbour of the venue. Our family and friends arranged champagne and glasses for us to arrive to and it made for such a lovely, intimate time. The boat overlooked the terrace where cocktail hour was happening and it was such a wonderful time soaking in the day, our guests and the newly married bliss from the vantage point of the water.
HONEYMOONING
To avoid the post wedding blues, we decided to do our honeymoon later in the year. In December, we are fleeing the Canadian cold to soak in the sun in Cancun, Mexico at the Majestic Elegance Costa Majures. I plan to read the first book I have read in a longer time than I would like to admit. If you need us, you can find us under a sun umbrella for two weeks.
A WORD OF ADVICE FOR BRIDES TO BE
Leave room in your schedule for the magic to happen. The moments that sometimes take a little longer, like your niece wanting to do up your shoes, which takes a lot longer than an adult, are the ones that I will cherish the most. If you can extend your venue and photographer hours for longer, do it, relish in it all if you have the chance.
