YOUR LOVE STORY
Ben and I first met at an oceanside bar in Cottesloe on a Sunday afternoon in Summer. When I first saw Ben, he was dancing on the dance floor like an absolute fool; hip jiggling, shoulder bopping, booty wiggling. He exuded a playfulness that captivated me, and I felt giddy with happiness at just being near him. I knew from our first meeting that he was it; I would happily do life with him by my side. Some years later, Ben and I welcomed home our fur-baby Alfie. Ben told me hed organised a special collar for Alfie and asked me to look at the dog tag. There, on Alfies collar, were the words WILL YOU MARRY MY DAD. I turned around to find Ben down on one knee with engagement ring in hand. I barely managed to form the word yes through all sobbing that followed!
FINDING YOUR DRESS
One of my bridesmaids sent me a picture of the Autumn Gown on Instagram and I fell head over heels in love with it! I always knew I wanted something sleek and elegant, but it was the combination of the beautiful cowl neckline and low back that really made this the perfect gown for me.I made an appointment with Vicky at Through the White Door, a beautifulbridal boutique in North Fremantle,to try it on for good measure. Vicky was so lovely and helpful, and made the whole experience that much more magical. After daydreaming about the dress for the next week, I called Vicky and said yes to the dress!
Ben and I both love being surrounded by natureand we had our hearts set on agarden ceremony. It was important for us that the ceremony and reception were both at the same venue, so we could seamlessly move from one celebration into the next. We found Barrett Lane via our photographer, Kate Drennan, whorecommended it to us. Within a minute of being there, we were sold!
THE INSPIRATION & AESTHETIC FOR THE DAY
We wanted the natural beauty of the venue to speak for itself, so we opted for minimalist styling with a timeless theme. We sourced oak cross back chairs and stools from Oak & Barrel Events Co and paired them with round tables with white linen from The Hire Society. We sourced a beautiful vintage table for our sweethearts table from Pretty Willow Prop Hire and adorned it with sheer silk to give it a romantic air.
FLOWERS & STYLING NOTES
We didnt want the styling to be too perfect, so we opted for a number of white flower varieties to be used throughout the venue. Our florist, Beth from The Flour Shop, was incredibly helpful in suggesting a number of varieties to achieve this look. In the end, we opted for combinations of delphinium, white lisanthius, sweet pea, babies breath, anemones and roses. We paired the white floral arrangements with crystal bud vases, and had white petals scattered at various locations around the venue. A beautiful hanging installation was installed above our sweethearts table, with tendrils of green English Ivy let loose.
There are so many little things to get fixated on when planning a wedding, but the big non-negotiable for us was the fun-factor. We had several friends who recounted their wedding days as being overwhelming or fast paced, so it was important for us that we didnt dedicate too much time to formalities, such a speeches. In light of this, we opted for a cocktail style reception with plenty of seating (should anyone need to rest their feet) but no rigid seating plans or segregated tables. This encouraged all our guests to get mingling early, and some even started the dance floor before the final round of speeches had commenced!
During the ceremony, our celebrant, Shannon Fleming, asked Ben and I to look towards the friends and family that were present to celebrate our union. It was during this moment, when we saw our friends teary eyed and bursting with happiness, that we truly realised how lucky we are. Not only are we lucky in the love we have with one another, but also in the love we share with so many family and friends.
Despite the possibility of COVID lockdowns looming over us, we booked a trip to Tasmania and crossed all of our fingers and toes! Luckily for us, we managed to fly direct from Perth to Hobart, and enjoy two weeks of road tripping up the east coast of Tasmania. We ate our body weight in cheese, drank more than the prescribed amount of vino, and enjoyed being a tourist for the first time in over a year.
A WORD OF ADVICE
Dont aim for the wedding of the year, aim for the marriage of a lifetime.
